Switching a checking account is mostly paperwork, and most of the paperwork is at the other institution. This page is the order we recommend doing it in. It takes two to six weeks depending on how many payments you have set up, and the failure people run into is closing the old account before the last automatic payment has moved.
Open your Calder account online or at any office, and fund it. Do not close the old one yet. Leave enough in the old account to cover anything that is still drawing on it.
Give your employer the routing number 064209731 and your new account number. Most payroll departments want the request on their own form. If yours will take ours, print the direct deposit authorization and hand it in. Payroll changes usually take one or two pay cycles.
If you receive a federal benefit payment, change it at the agency that pays it rather than through us. We cannot redirect a federal payment on your behalf.
Pull the last three statements from the other institution and mark every automatic payment, subscription and transfer. This is tedious and it is the entire job. The ones people miss are annual charges, the insurance premium that draws quarterly, and anything set up through a merchant's website rather than through the bank.
Set up each payment again, either in Calder Online Banking bill pay or with the company directly. A payment set up with the company directly has to be changed with the company; we cannot move it for you.
Wait until a full statement cycle has passed with nothing posting to the old account. Then close it in writing and ask for the closing balance by check or by wire rather than by mail if the balance is large.
If a form does not open, any office can print it for you. Call (423) 555-0169 and we will mail one.
